Red Fridays
Foundation of Canada announces a special event. The official name is “Repatriation
Memorial Drive and Rally”. This event is to honour our fallen
soldiers and pay tribute to their families and all supporters of our Canadian
Troops. The event will commence on Saturday May 31st 2008 at AM in
Trenton Ontario. We will rally in Trenton until 3:00 PM. A procession of
all participants will begin the 172 KM journey to Toronto. Police escorts
will provide a safe passage. We are to arrive approximately 5:00 PM
in Toronto. Activities will include a tribute to the fallen soldiers
and their families.
The memorial
procession consisting of 82 lead drivers with red vehicles and special
appointed vehicles will be escorted by police from Trenton to Toronto.
The precession will commence from Trenton at 15:00 (EDT) and arrive in
Toronto around 17:00 (EDT). The main lead vehicle (along with others)
will be equipped with Amateur Radio capabilities to provide progress reports
of the procession.
Amateur
Radio Emergency Service is pleased to announce that we have been invited
to participate in the Repatriation Memorial Drive & Rally. Emergency
Management Ontario ARES will be activating Emergency Radio Station
(VE3EMO) located in the Provincial Emergency Operations Centre to conduct
a Canada-wide Network commencing at 14:00 EDT (18:00 UTC), Amateur Radio
operators across Canada will be invited to check in and pay their respects
for our fallen soldiers.
The Repatriation
Memorial Radio Network commenced at 14:00 on a series of linked repeaters
and IRLP covering all of Canada. Net Control for the event was conducted
from the radio station located at the Ontario Provincial Emergency Operations
Centre VE3EMO.
Communications
were established with the Repatriation Memorial Rally (VA3TSR) station
from Trenton Ontario, Capt. Hal Buller (VA3HFB) was in the lead vehicle
(VA3TSR) providing progress reports from the procession as it proceeded
toward Downsview Ontario along the Highway
of Heroes (401). Radio operators were invited to check into the network
and pay their respects for our fallen Canadian soldiers. We were
also able to track the Memorial procession via Automatic Position Reporting
System (APRS)
Luis Lopez
(VA3TCL) EMO ARES radio operator participated in the procession of red
